Counselors at Calallen organized College night last Monday to help students find the right school for them.

College night brings in representatives from colleges and military recruiters from around the state of Texas.

“My goal is that we have a one stop shop for all students and parents to get information about college,” Mrs. Larissa Duke said. “So that you don’t have to call around or drive anywhere.”

Many students came to college night looking at different schools on the lookout for the perfect one.

“I’m looking at UT,” senior Laura Flores said. “I do [like having college night]. I think it gives us more opportunities to look around and see that we have more options out there.”

Colleges and representatives from various military branches attended.

When organizing this event, the counselors look for what helps students and parents most.

“I am hoping that everybody will get as much information as their looking for,” Duke said. “Application deadlines, scholarships, what programs their schools offer, tuition costs and if some schools require housing.”

It takes lots of work to gather enough representatives to come for college night.

“The nice thing about it is there is an organization called TACRAO [Texas Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers] who houses all this contact information,” Duke said. “They host this TACRAO college night for about a month straight and these representatives go to these different locations, Calallen being one.”
