A Greek Mythology project is underway in freshman English classes and is to be turned in Feb. 21.

Students are expected to pick, research, and write about a certain Greek god or goddess.

“I was very excited when my teacher introduced the topic,” freshman Regina Soliz said. “It gave me an opportunity to shed some light on many different Greek gods and to learn more about them.”

For students like Regina, there is something beautiful about Greek Mythology.

“I enjoy seeing the humanity among beings that were supposed to be divine and rule above the human race,” Soliz said. “It makes it so much more interesting to be writing a research paper for it.”

The teachers feel that if a student is invested and interested in their topic, they will have a successful paper.

“By allowing the student to pick the god or goddess that they are interested in, it will motivate them to further their knowledge on the topic they picked,” English 1 teacher Jenna Davis said. “We are requiring them to get many different research sources. They must find 2 internet and book sources, use an online database, write an outline, works cited page, draft, and then a final copy.”

In addition, the staff believes this paper will help students on their future tasks.

“This particular assignment is a part of our Greek Mythology unit that must be covered according to state guidelines,” Davis said. “It will prepare students for the EOC by having them read, summarize and edit their expository text.”
