HEB is sponsoring an event, in which volunteers will meet at the Hazel Bazemore Park this Saturday to clean-up and complete maintenance work. Volunteers will be picking up trash, painting restrooms, staining stairs, and planting two trees.

“We are going to help improve and beautify the park,” Michelle Henderson, HEB community clean-up coordinator said.

The park has been noted in the past to be unclean and dirty, from tires in the water, to litter being on the ground and in the river.

“Often when I go there, the park is dirty, and even seems unsafe for some animals to be living there,” Harrison Kent, a sophomore, said. “I’m hoping this effort will make a difference for a long time in the park.”

All supplies will be provided by HEB, and Bill Millers will be providing food and drinks to all volunteers.

“All volunteers have to do is show up. We are supplying everything,” Henderson said.

The group with the most trash collected will receive a prize, so joining HEB this Earth Day to actively take part in cleaning the Earth and community would greatly help the community, and prove volunteer hours for participants.

“The event is considered volunteer work,” Brandon Hochstetler, a sophomore, said. “So it’s a great way to get volunteer hours, which looks good on applications.”
