The Topcat’s hard work showed off at their 2nd Annual Danceline Coastal Regional Contest. It was a very successful competition with many schools attending such as Cigarroa High School, A.P Solis Middle School, Veterans Memorial High School, W.B. Ray High School, Donna High School, Stroman Middle School, Carroll High School, Victoria East JV and Lehman High School.

Calallen Varsity did an outstanding job during this contest. They received the following awards; Overall Grand Champions, Platinum Sweepstakes winners 95+ average score, Best in Category Jazz, Best in Category Hip Hop and Best in Category Contemporary.

“There were great teams we competed against but overall, I think both teams did really well,” Marissa Hernandez said.

The officers competed and showed off their three routines. They received the following awards; Overall Grand Champions, Platinum Sweepstakes Winners 95+ average score, Best in Category Lyrical, Best in Category Hip Hop and Best in Category Contemporary.

“All I think when I perform is perfection. Everything needs to be sharper, harder and stronger,” Sierra Rach said. “I also think about how fun it is to be performing and I try to have a good time.”

The JV team received Sweepstakes Winners and Best in Category Jazz.

“We were very pleased with the results. This will push us to work ten times harder for Nationals. I’m excited to show everyone what we’re capable of,” Mariah Ramos said.

Sierra Rach and Victoria Gonzalez received first place overall with their amazing duet and it’s storyline.

“It felt so rewarding to win first place for our duet. We work so hard and we had a lot of competition so it felt good to know all of your practicing payed off,” Gonzalez said. “The storyline is really just about us growing up and moving on to the next chapter of our lives.”

AJC Awards are from the dancer’s coaches. The coaches will pick one girl from their team(s) to receive this award. Chelsea Wechsler received it for the Varsity Division and Alexis DeLosSantos received in for the JV Division.

“I was quite surprised, but honored to receive the AJC Award,” Wechsler said. “Knowing that the Voorhees saw me as a deserving young lady for this award truly made my senior year.”

Annie Tran placed second place in the Toe-Touch Technique Challenge.

“I’ve won it four years in a row so I’d like a crown for being a reigning champ,” Tran said.

Last but not least, there are the judge’s awards. These awards go to the teams that may have stuck out in certain categories. The Varsity received Outstanding Presentation in their team Contemporary.

Nationals will take place on March 25th and 26th in Galveston.
