Many students that want to apply for scholarships are at a loss for information in the aspect of how, what, where, and when to obtain these scholarships.

Although anyone can start looking for scholarships now, most are for seniors and juniors according to counselor secretary Vanessa Cantu. There are a myriad of ways that you can find available scholarships.

“[Students] have to do some research,” Cantu said. “We have local scholarships available, like the Calallen Academic Booster club scholarship. There’s the Mr. Ball Memorial scholarship, $500 each semester to two kids.”

The Academic booster Scholarship requires you to turn in your completed application in a sealed envelope addressed to the Academic Booster Club at the counselor’s office by Thursday, March 30, at 4:00 p.m. More information on these local scholarships are available in the counselor’s office.

“To find college scholarships, you can go on a college’s website and see what scholarships they offer,” Cantu said. “Some scholarships will specify; they’ll say ‘only in the medical field’ or ‘only in state’, so the profession you pursue and where you want to go to school impacts what scholarships are there.”

There are also other ways you can get in touch with current information on scholarships right here in Calallen.

“Mrs. Huff has the Remind app. She sends out texts about info on the scholarships,” Cantu said. “Calallen TV announces many of them.”

According to Cantu, the funds to go to college are there for students who want to go, and it’s better to apply to have that chance.

“Seniors, make sure you are applying for these scholarships, that you send your transcripts to scholarships, you make sure you’re on time,” Cantu said.

Sign up for important scholarship updates with Mrs.Huff on Remind. There are three ways to get information:

  1. Get the app @: rmd.at/calallen
  2. Get text Notifications: Text the message [email protected] to the number ‘81010’
If you’re having trouble, try texting ‘81010’ to ‘(361)687-2862’
  3. Email notifications: go to ‘rmd.at/calallen’ on a desktop computer to sign up for email notifications
